What’s is a grease trap?

A grease tap is a plumbing device that is designed to trap fats, oils, grease and solids waste from escaping into the city or sewer sanitary lines. It is per city ordinance that a commercial food servicing establishment as part of best management practices that all fse’s are mandated to install a grease gravity device before doing business in the city.  Without it or a properly working grease trap, inspectors will have the ability to prevent the business from operating or to open a food servicing establishment.

How much does it cost to install a grease trap?

There are two types of devices that the city can make you install for the business; a grease trap or a grease interceptor.  The difference between these two devices are the size and the cost.  Majority of grease traps are found inside the kitchen ranging in sizes of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100 gallons and the cost of installation will start at $2,500.  On the other hand, if the city requirement is to install a grease interceptor of 750, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 gallons or more the cost will be drastically different which can start at $20,000.  Therefore, we highly suggest to call the city to determine their requirements.
